The Baltimore Ravens have been busy this past week. After firing their longtime head coach, John Harbaugh, the team is conducting a search for its fourth coach in franchise history.

They have already completed several interviews, many of which have been with top candidates. However, many are still on the way. But with the playoffs in full swing, some of these interviews have been difficult to schedule.

The Ravens reportedly are set to interview Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. They have yet to conduct that interview, but now things will get a bit easier.

Minter and the Chargers were eliminated from the playoffs during Sunday’s Wild Card round. They faced an uphill battle against the two-seeded New England Patriots, and despite an admirable effort from Minter’s defense, the Chargers’ offense could never get anything going in the 16-3 loss.

This loss completely opens up Minter’s schedule to interview for teams with head coaching vacancies. When it comes to a team as highly-touted as the Ravens, they should be ready to pounce on the opportunity to possibly sign one of the top head coaching candidates during this cycle.

Jesse Minter’s schedule is now wide open

Minter has showcased why he is one of the best young defensive minds in the NFL this year. He built the Chargers into a top-five defense. They finished fifth in yards allowed per game with 285.2 yards, and they were ninth in points allowed per game with 20.0 points.

The 42-year-old put an exclamation point on his outstanding season, holding a top-three New England offense to just 16 points. His group also totaled five sacks and forced two turnovers.

As if that defensive masterclass wasn’t enough, Minter also has Baltimore ties that’ll surely make him one of the favorites for their head coaching gig.

Before landing his second NFL coaching job with the Chargers in 2024, Minter was first introduced to the NFL level with the Ravens in 2017. He  was brought in as a defensive assistant, where he spent two seasons. In 2019, he was promoted to the team’s assistant defensive backs coach and earned another promotion the following season, taking over as the lead defensive backs coach.

With Los Angeles now knocked out of the playoffs, Baltimore should look to schedule their interview with Minter as soon as possible. Among the top candidates, Minter is a coach who can reinforce the Ravens’ aggressive, physical defensive mentality that has carried them over the years. This past season’s defense was pivotal, and Minter could be the exact guy for the job to not only rebuild that unit but also get the team back to being a postseason threat.
