The Baltimore Ravens are under a new regime in 2026, yet the expectations remain high. In fact, they might even be higher. There’s that much excitement and anticipation surrounding the Jesse Minter era.

One of the biggest storylines of Baltimore’s 2026 campaign will be the partnership of Lamar Jackson and new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. You have a two-time MVP getting to work with a fast-rising offensive genius who is just one year older than him. While Jackson will remain the same player for the most part, changes could also be coming to his game.

Martín O’Donnell interviewed Ravens Super Bowl 35 champion Qadry Ismail for a piece on Bolavip, and it’s clear he’s excited for the next phase of Jackson’s career under Doyle. In fact, he offered a legendary analogy…one that includes one of the greatest NBA players, if not the greatest. Michael Jordan. Take a listen.

What Jackson’s version of the Jordan fadeaway will be remains to be seen. And it should be fun to watch. There’s a bigger hope that fans might have in mind when it comes to this analogy, though. A hope that includes a diamond-encrusted ring and a Lombardi Trophy.

Former Baltimore Ravens’ weapon Lamar Jackson analogy will hopefully come true in more ways than one

Look, Michael Jordan won six championships across his absolutely phenomenal NBA career. Let's be honest with ourselves, Lamar Jackson isn’t going to come close to that, and if he somehow does, he’d be extremely lucky. However, as the Ravens enter a new era with a young coaching staff, the team is hitting a bit of a reset button. A reset that will hopefully result in more playoff success.

Jackson gets to work with a fantastic offensive coordinator in Declan Doyle. Doyle’s a bit of an unknown as he’s never been a playcaller before, but when you’re just 30 years old and have already ranked up to being the OC for one of the most talented offenses in the NFL, you’re doing something right.

There’s no doubt that Doyle could grow into one of the more exciting minds in the league, and with Jackson, the possibilities are endless. It might be the perfect pairing. The offense grew stagnant at times in 2025, and they relied way too much on Jackson and Derrick Henry to play hero ball in those moments. Doyle, who has worked with Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, will bring a new way of thinking to Charm City and a mindset that should help get the most out of Jackson.

Whatever system Doyle implements for Jackson, he’ll be looking for that Jordan fadeaway that Qadry Ismail talked about. Jackson needs to better protect himself after an injury-riddled 2025 campaign, and while the offensive line play must improve, it’s also true that he needs to keep himself out of harm’s way when presented with the opportunity. That in itself, along with the exciting new pairing with Doyle, could put championships on the horizon…hopefully.
