The Baltimore Ravens are entering their training camp with a roster clustered with talent. Whether it is proven Pro Bowlers, key contributors, or young talent looking to establish themselves, countless players are aiming to make their mark in 2025.
The receiver group is one unit that has a lot on its mind this year. While the duo of Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman settled in nicely last season and looks to be the future in Baltimore, they have yet to earn the respect they deserve. Veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins also has a score to settle. Most fans are writing him off, and the Ravens are the perfect opportunity for him to put the finishing touches on his Hall of Fame-caliber career.
With that trio is taking up the spotlight heading into training camp, the team’s abundance of young talent is flying under the radar. In the receiver room, there are rookies and former undrafted free agents looking to capture their coaches’ attention. One of those players is second-year pro Dayton Wade.
Could this be the year for Dayton Wade?
Wade already has the fans’ attention and is likely already in good favor with the coaching staff. He signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss in 2024, and it took him no time to start impressing. The 5-foot-9 playmaker was the star of last year’s camp and carried that into the preseason. He put up big-time numbers with seven catches for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Wade was a fan favorite due to those efforts, and although many thought he had played his way onto the 2024 53-man roster, he ultimately was cut. The Ravens brought him back to the practice squad, though, and going into training camp, he is once again looking to claim what is his.
Unfortunately for Wade, it will not be any easier. It only got tougher. There is a lot less room for error on this year’s roster. Backing up the starting trio are Tylan Wallace, Devontez Walker, and LaJohntay Wester. Those three already seem like locks, and veteran Anthony Miller was a trustworthy option late last season. For a team that usually only retains six receivers, the competition in camp will be intense.
People should expect to hear the former Ole Miss Rebel’s name all month during training camp. He dominated during the period, and with another year of development, he should come on even stronger. If Wade does make the team, it will likely be in a limited role, but his talent is undeniable. Another impactful training camp and preseason showing should be on the way.
