By Matt Sidney
After coming off a disappointing loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the Baltimore Ravens are looking to get back on track. It's much easier said than done, as Flock Nation heads to Inglewood, CA to take on the surging Los Angeles Chargers.
The playoff implications are all over the place. The Ravens trail the Chargers in the AFC playoff picture by half a game. LA's been a surprising team. Their defense paces the NFL, allowing a stingy 14.5 points per game. The team is an extension of their vibrant head coach, Jim Harbaugh - brother of Ravens' head coach John Harbaugh.
Much will be made about the Harbaugh Bowl, but really, this matchup comes down to two teams asserting themselves as AFC contenders.
Who are the announcers for Ravens vs. Chargers tonight?
- Network: ESPN
- Play-by-play: Joe Buck
- Color commentary: Troy Aikman
- Sideline reporter: Lisa Salters
The Ravens are making their second Monday night appearance of the season. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman called the action in Week 8 when Baltimore outlasted the Buccaneers 41-31.
Lamar Jackson will hope to improve upon his impressive Monday Night Football record. The MVP frontrunner is 6-2 under the lights on Monday night. If Jackson and Derrick Henry can get the offense humming again, Baltimore could steal a much-needed victory in LA.
Referees for Ravens vs. Chargers
Head Referee (Crew Chief): Carl Cheffers
This will be Cheffers’ first time officiating a game for either team in 2024. He last refereed a Ravens game in Week 5 of the 2023 season against the Steelers and hasn’t worked a Chargers game since Week 10 of 2021.
Carl Cheffers has been relatively quiet as a referee during the 2024 season, having officiated nine games with a lower-than-average number of penalties. This is significant for Baltimore, as they are the most undisciplined team in the league, leading all teams in penalties. Cheffers' games have averaged just under 10 penalties per game, noticeably lower than the league's typical average of 12 to 13 penalties.
While his penalty yard totals are also below average, his home team winning percentage (around 78%) stands out as higher than the norm, though this could even out as the season progresses. Ravens fans should keep an eye on how Cheffers handles big moments, as his games often favor letting players play, especially in the trenches.
Here’s the full breakdown of Cheffer's crew:
- Umpire: Brandon Cruse
- Down Judge: Mike Carr
- Line Judge: Robin DeLorenzo
- Field Judge: Eugene Hall
- Side Judge: Nate Jones
- Back Judge: Martin Hankins

The last time the Ravens and Chargers faced off was in Week 12 of the 2023 season, with Baltimore securing a 20-10 win at home. Zay Flowers stole the spotlight, scoring both a receiving and rushing touchdown, including a 37-yard game-sealer late in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens’ defense dominated, forcing four turnovers to stifle Justin Herbert and the Chargers’ offense. Herbert threw for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but a strip sack by Jadeveon Clowney on a lengthy second-half Chargers drive sealed their fate. Lamar Jackson managed the game efficiently, becoming the fastest quarterback in NFL history to surpass 5,000 career rushing yards.
This time, the Ravens head to SoFi Stadium for a Monday Night Football matchup, looking to replicate last year’s success against the surging Chargers.
