It’s still very early in training camp, but wide receiver Devontez Walker has been taking the offseason by storm. He dominated practice all offseason, and he has continued that performance at the start of camp. While the Baltimore Ravens offense is uber-talented, with the way Walker is playing, the coaching staff might have to find a way to get Walker involved as much as possible.
Many players have played at a high level in the first few practices, but Walker has been the biggest playmaker thus far, leaving his best for Saturday. Justin Robertson, a writer for BaltimoreRavens.com, highlighted the best players from the team’s first week of training camp, and Walker led the charge. Robertson wrote:
“Walker was a magnet when it came to finding the football Saturday, hauling in multiple grabs from different quarterbacks. He and Lamar Jackson had the play of the day early in 11-on-11 work, when Jackson heaved a pass down the middle of the field as Walker separated from Nate Wiggins and ran under the ball for an explosive play.”
Devontez Walker could be a breakout star in 2025
Everyone who followed the Ravens saw the brief flashes of Walker last year. He was a prominent name in the offseason and showcased his deep threat specialty, catching a 21-yard touchdown from Lamar Jackson in a Week 15 matchup with the New York Giants. It was his only catch of the season, but he also saw just three targets. If he can bring that juice on a consistent down-to-down basis, he should be a factor in this year’s passing attack. It won’t come easy, though.
The Ravens' air attack rose significantly in 2024. Zay Flowers made the Pro Bowl after his 1,059-yard and four-touchdown campaign, and Rashod Bateman broke out for 756 yards and nine touchdowns. The team extended him this past offseason, putting a ton of stock in the 25-year-old’s future. They also signed veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins, adding another key weapon for Jackson.
This deep room does not even include tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely, who are both looking to make massive impacts in contract years. It will be difficult for Walker to see targets, but he has put his name on the map. If a player like Hopkins continues to regress as he has over the past year, then Walker could cut into his reps.
It is only training camp, and pads haven’t even been thrown on yet, but it’s hard not to start putting faith in Walker. The hype’s followed him since his 2023 campaign at North Carolina, and it sounds like fans could get a glimpse of what the future could hold for Walker this year.
