All eyes are on the Baltimore Ravens as they search for their fourth head coach in franchise history. After firing John Harbaugh, they immediately became the hottest landing spot on the head coaching front.
After 10 jobs were freed up this cycle, there are just six openings remaining. The Ravens have been making slow progress, as they just began their second round of interviews this week. So far, of the 17 candidates, three frontrunners have been made clear. Those are Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
On Wednesday, reports suggested that Minter became the top target. The team interviewed him that afternoon, but ended things without a deal. This likely means the Ravens will wait for the schedules of those still in the playoffs to free up before they make a final decision.
For now, Minter remains the favorite. If Baltimore does bring Minter back to Charm City, their hunt for an offensive coordinator will become the next hot topic. With a player like quarterback Lamar Jackson leading the way on offense, the eventual choice for that spot is crucial to the team's future success.
Owner Steve Bisciotti mentioned in a recent press conference that they’ll look for Jackson’s input on these decisions. By the sounds of it, he could already have a favorite for his next playcaller: Kliff Kingsbury.
Lamar Jackson and Ravens players reportedly interested in Kliff Kingsbury
On an episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Wednesday, Dianna Russini, an NFL insider for The Athletic, reported that Jackson and Baltimore’s weapons are interested in Kingsbury.
“[The offensive coordinator] is all that matters in Baltimore right now. Who is going to coach Lamar Jackson?” Russini said. “Kliff Kingsbury is a name that’s out there. I know for a fact that Lamar Jackson and those receivers would like Kliff Kingsbury to run their offense. They have shown support. They've been vocal about it.”
Russini added that if Weaver gets the job, Kingsbury would be expected to take the offensive coordinator job.
If the Ravens want to get the most out of Jackson and this offense, then they should look no further than Kingsbury. He was interviewed as a head coaching candidate, and while he may not have what it takes to be an NFL head coach, he could be perfect for an offensive coordinator role.
Kingsbury is a quarterback whisperer. Throughout his coaching career, he’s had his fingerprints all over the development of some outstanding and promising passers.
He was the head coach Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech (2013-2017), the head coach for the Arizona Cardinals (2019-2022) when Kyler Murray was playing his best football, the offensive analyst for Caleb Williams at USC (2023), and the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders (2024-2025) when Jayden Daniels put together one of the best rookie seasons of all time.
After an inconsistent 2025, the Ravens offense needs to reintroduce itself as one of the most explosive and dominant units in all of football. If Kingsbury calls the plays, there’s no doubt that would happen. In fact, they would probably reach another level.
