The Baltimore Ravens have a ton of eyes on their quarterback room. Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley will obviously be the go-to guys again in 2026. There's no debate there. But between Jackson’s contract situation and the battle for the QB3 spot, there’s a ton to talk about.
The most polarizing player on Baltimore’s roster is undoubtedly Diego Pavia. Pavia signed an offseason roster contract back in April, earning the opportunity to compete on the 90-man roster in camp. There’s absolutely no guarantee, though, so Pavia will have to fight tooth and nail to stick around with the Ravens.
Voluntary OTAs have kicked off in Baltimore, and on Tuesday, the QB room was missing a notable name in Lamar Jackson. While his absence shouldn’t be a major storyline (as long as he eventually shows up), it does open up additional attention for those on the field. For Pavia, he has to make the most of every opportunity.
Diego Pavia can’t waste major offseason opportunity with Baltimore Ravens
Although there’s a huge need for the Ravens’ starters to get acclimated to the new coaching staff’s system, OTAs, more than anything, are a golden chance for depth and fringe roster players to make a name for themselves. Perhaps no one is feeling the heat of roster competition more than those fighting to be the third quarterback behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.
Looking at the current state of the roster, Diego Pavia is fighting two other players for that spot. There’s fellow undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano and veteran Skyler Thompson. While there’s a likely outcome that none of those guys make the active roster, they’d almost be guaranteed a spot on the practice squad if they come out as the top dog in that battle. For Pavia, he might have the biggest uphill climb of all.
The two major concerns around Pavia are his size and attitude. He stands at 5-foot-9, which is pretty much unheard of for an NFL quarterback, and he certainly rubs some people the wrong way with his personality. All of that likely caused a draft slip, which led to him being the first Heisman finalist since 2014 to go undrafted. He can prove everyone wrong in OTAs, though.
Of course, the preseason will be the real test for Pavia. Game action is when we’ll really know if he’s ready to play in the pros. However, he has to make it there first. He’s in a spot where his back is against the wall every single day. OTAs are the first stop that will determine his NFL fate. It may sound harsh, but if  he makes even one hiccup, that could be the deciding factor that washes his dream away.
