Former Ravens anchor might be the missing link to Jesse Minter's masterplan

A reunion would make so much sense.

The Baltimore Ravens showed exactly how not to play defense in 2025. This offseason, they’ve made relentless efforts to improve that.

It started with the coaching staff hiring Jesse Minter as head coach and Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator, and it’s continued in free agency with a class headlined by the addition of premier edge rusher Trey Hendrickson. This year’s coaching staff and roster are a vast improvement from what they had last season.

Still, it feels like the Ravens are a couple of pieces away from defensive dominance in 2026. One area that could still use an upgrade is the interior defensive line. Another game-changer to pair with Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones could take them to the next level. That player could come in the form of former Raven Calais Campbell. The front office should look to bring him back to complete Minter’s defense.

Baltimore Ravens should look into reuniting with Calais Campbell

If they added Campbell, an already vastly improved defensive line would look ferocious. The 30-sack unit from 2025 would more like one of the top sack groups. Hendrickson seems ready for another double-digit sack season, Mike Green is on the rise after flashing in his rookie campaign, Nnamdi Madubuike will hopefully return from his neck injury to wreck interior offensive lines, and Travis Jones should continue his development as a pass rusher. Throw Campbell in that group, and they truly have talent everywhere you look.

Campbell may be 39 years old, but he is still dominant. He’s aging like a fine wine. He had 6.5 sacks with the Arizona Cardinals last year, while also tallying 33 pressures. His 6-foot-8 frame also continued to prove overwhelming, finishing with 15 pressures against double teams in 2025.

There’s no doubt that Campbell would also be an excellent veteran to have in the locker room. After such a disastrous season, the unit needs a voice like Campbell’s to turn those woes around. With a new coaching regime taking over, too, Campbell’s leadership would play a huge role in a seamless transition. And it helps that Campbell played under Minter in 2020, when Minter was the defensive backs coach in Charm City.

While general manager Eric DeCosta has mentioned that Baltimore is likely done breaking the bank, a potential Campbell addition wouldn’t cost too much. It should only be a one-year contract. It may be an expensive one-year contract, but it’d be worth the money.

According to Spotrac, Campbell is expected to ink a one-year, $10.9 million deal. Baltimore definitely has room for that, and could get him for even cheaper, given Campbell’s age and the possibility of a reunion being on the table.

With Broderick Washington being a cut candidate, there may be room for one more interior defensive lineman. If the Ravens are interested in adding another contributor there, Calais Campbell feels like the perfect fit. He would be the final piece to their pass rush puzzle. They need to act quickly before another team scoops him up.
