Joe Flacco threw 116 touchdowns at M&T Bank Stadium during his 11-season tenure with the Baltimore Ravens. In Week 2, he could throw his first as a visiting player. After making 83 starts as the hosting quarterback, he could be making his road debut at the Bank soon.

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback saga has churned out some less-than-stellar returns. According to The Athletic, Flacco is expected to start the season for the Browns. Draft picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders have yet to prove themselves in training camp, and former Pittsburgh Steeler Kenny Pickett is battling for the starting spot. Flacco’s experience (191 NFL starts, including five with Cleveland) has given him the early advantage.

Sanders has posted the best stats of the bunch to this point, but it’s important to remember that training camp “stats” lack context.

The rookies could earn the starting spot later in the season, but Flacco has the inside track to start Cleveland’s first few games. The Browns face all three division rivals in the first six games of the season. They host the Bengals in Week 1 and the Steelers in Week 6, in addition to their trip to Baltimore in Week 2. While the Browns are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NFL this season, they will have the opportunity to play spoiler - especially early.

Flacco spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, but he does have experience in Kevin Stefanski’s offense as a member of the 2023 Browns. Flacco led the Browns to a 4-1 record, throwing for 1,616 yards and 13 touchdowns. He had a 72.3 PFF Passing Grade across the five starts. He helped the team into the playoffs before throwing a pair of pick-sixes in a Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans.

Since the Ravens traded Flacco in the 2019 offseason, he has played for four different teams. He has started 28 games, accruing a 9-19 record.

Flacco has previously played against the Ravens once - Week 1 of the 2022 season. The Ravens beat the New York Jets 24-9 as Lamar Jackson tossed three touchdowns. Flacco threw for 309 yards, but he threw only one touchdown.

Flacco has defeated 30 of 32 NFL teams. He has a 0-1 record against the Ravens and Seattle Seahawks. He could have two chances to beat the Ravens this year, but the Seahawks would have to wait until 2027 (barring Flacco changing teams). If he were to complete the set, he would be one of just five quarterbacks to do so in NFL history.
