The Baltimore Ravens are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, so it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that one of the current players is reminding people of a franchise great with his training camp performance. However, with such a lofty compliment like that, fans would expect that assessment to be about a star like Derrick Henry, Kyle Hamilton, or Roquan Smith — maybe even rookie Malaki Starks.

No one would expect that defensive tackle Travis Jones was actually on the receiving end of the praise, but that’s the case, as Jones has made a statement with his performance throughout camp so far. In a recent ESPN piece, highlighting observations from several NFL camps, Dan Graziano recapped what he learned on his visit to a Ravens practice. When speaking about potential breakout players, Graziano revealed people in Baltimore’s building named cornerback Nate Wiggins, rookie safety Malaki Starks, and Jones as the likely candidates.

As for Jones, Graziano explained that someone in the building said the defensive tackle “reminded him a little bit of Ravens great Haloti Ngatabecause of his size and ability to generate interior pressure.”

Travis Jones being compared to Haloti Ngata ahead of potential breakout season

That's high praise for Jones, as Ngata played nine seasons with the Ravens after being drafted by the franchise in the first round of the 2006 Draft. In his nine years in Baltimore he went to five straight Pro Bowls from 2009 to 2013, contributing to some elite defenses that helped the Ravens win a Super Bowl in the 2012 season.

Travis Jones is hoping to have the same impact for the team after being drafted in the third round of the 2022 Draft. He finally emerged as a full time starter in 2024, starting in 15 games while appearing in all 17. In those games, Jones recorded a sack and 42 tackles, with four for a loss. Now, entering the 2025 season, Jones is ready to take his game to another level. Ravens fans will have to see a significant jump for the comparison to Haloti Ngata to be justified.
