The Baltimore Ravens had their first padded practice of training camp on Monday, and players are already starting to get banged up. Of course, it is not a shock to see players experience this after the first physical practice of the year, but it can get stressful when it is at a position where Baltimore has a history of injuries. It is especially concerning when those players have been injury-prone.
Going into Monday, the Ravens were down cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Bilhal Kone. Coming out of the day, fellow corner Jalyn Armour-Davis was added to that list. Head Coach John Harbaugh gave a mostly positive update on the injuries, which are deemed minor for now, but could be more worrisome down the line.
The Ravens' cornerback room is already taking a hit
Alexander is the most significant cause for concern in the group. Harbaugh mentioned the reason for his absence was just some swelling in his knee that needed to be drained, and he should return soon. However, the two-time Pro Bowler did tear his PCL last season, and if that knee still has issues, it could wreck Baltimore’s 2025 plans.
In Kone’s case, he suffered a shoulder injury. Similar to Alexander, Harbaugh believes it is minor and he should have a quick recovery, but it is still a setback for a rookie who was looking to make an impact out of the gates. Though the 23-year-old’s injury history is not as significant, it can be tough for a rookie to find his way if injuries keep him off the field. In a packed secondary, it will be crucial for Kone to return quickly to stay in the running for a roster spot.
The news surrounding Armour-Davis may be the most disappointing of the bunch. During offseason training activities, it sounded like the former Alabama star was bound to have a breakout year. But he is already dealing with an injury, a common theme throughout his career. Like the others, Harbaugh does not believe it is that serious, but it still calls for an MRI. Armour-Davis is also battling for a spot on the 53-man roster, and his case could already take a hit.
There is no need to be overly concerned about any of these injuries for now, especially given the team’s deep secondary. Their elite depth is already being tested, and we are only in the second week of training camp. Thankfully, though, all three are expected to return soon.
