The Baltimore Ravens have long been without a franchise pass rusher. They have had several players put together Pro Bowl-caliber seasons, but have not had one who they can call the face of their defense since Terrell Suggs. That could all change soon, though.

Rookie outside linebacker Mike Green feasted in his professional debut against the Indianapolis Colts. The whole Ravens defensive line had impactful showings, but Green’s stat line by the end of the game was unreal.

In Week 1 of preseason action, Green went on a tear. He did exactly what he was drafted to do, getting after the passer the whole time he was on the field. He earned an 85.6 pass rush grade per Pro Football Focus, accounting for three hurries and a 30% pass rush win rate.

Ravens may have found their next star pass rusher in Mike Green

It's just preseason, and mostly backups are getting reps against Green, but it was an impressive debut nonetheless. The rookie faced several veterans, which makes his efforts even more impressive. He also showcased traits that do not show up on the stat sheet, but prove he has the potential to be a generational pass rusher.

All night, Green was putting his athletic ability on full display. It helped beat Colts’ left tackle Blake Freeland on various snaps. He also used his twitchiness and speed to win inside, converting speed to power. What caught many people’s attention, though, was his crazy bend. It went viral following the game.

Heading into the regular season, the 22-year-old is joining an already strong group of pass rushers. Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh had career years in 2024, as Van Noy tallied 12.5 sacks and Oweh had 10.

Fellow outside linebacker Tavius Robinson is also expected to be a productive rotational piece. He only put up 3.5 sacks last year, but coaches have been enamored with what they have seen from him this offseason. Younger players in David Ojabo and Adisa Isaac could also break out.

The revolving door of pass rushers should help keep Green’s legs fresh and prevent him from hitting the rookie wall in 2025. He has already shown his tremendous ability to pressure the quarterback, so keeping a player of his potential rested and ready to dominate in the most critical moments of the game should pay huge dividends.
