While the talk of the town has surrounded the 2026 NFL Draft and the class of incoming rookies, the Baltimore Ravens have continued to add to a talented roster. There’s a ton of excitement that has built around the signing of Calais Campbell.

This reunion was exactly what fans needed to see. Coming off a very disappointing season, the Ravens had to improve their scuffling defensive line, and they’ve added a lot to that area this offseason. On Thursday, they got another jolt in Campbell.

By the sounds of it, there isn’t a single person more excited about Campbell returning to Baltimore than head coach Jesse Minter. He couldn’t keep the smile off his face when talking about it on Saturday.

“[I’m] really excited about [Calais Campbell]. He had 6.5 sacks last year, he’s still playing at such an unbelievable level,” Minter said. “He’ll really help us. He’ll be great for the young guys, of course, because that’s who Calais is, but I’m looking forward to what he brings on the field in between the lines. And I really think he’ll help us both in the run and pass game.”

Baltimore Ravens are super excited about Calais Campbell signing for obvious reasons

Campbell is an awesome addition for obvious reasons. Even entering his 19th NFL season, he’s a force to be reckoned with as a pass rusher. In run defense, he possesses a natural ability to clog rushing lanes with a towering 6-foot-8, 315-pound frame. He'll be a game-changer.

Sure, he’s 39 years old, but he’s still a darn good football player. He will likely instantly slot in on the starting interior defensive line alongside Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones. Throw in Trey Hendrickson off one edge, and the young duo of Mike Green and Zion Young on the other, and you have a very strong defensive front.

There’s also another clear cause for Minter’s excitement. Obviously, as a defensive-minded coach, having another uber-talented piece on that side of the field will get Minter fired up, but Campbell’s also the exact player a first-year head coach needs. He’s pretty much like having another coach on the field.

Campbell’s experience, paired with his elite leadership qualities, makes him a critical piece to the unit this coming season. It’ll make Minter’s adjustment to life as a head coach much easier.

With some young pieces on defense, as well, Campbell’s impact will go far beyond the box score. He may be taking snaps away from Aeneas Peebles and Rayshaun Benny, but as a mentor, he will help in 2026 and also for the foreseeable future. That's far more valuable.

While it felt like D.J. Reader was going to be the last piece of the defensive line, and he still could be, the Campbell signing could be a much more worthwhile addition. Clearly, the fans and coaches already love him.
