It's becoming a massive issue.

The Baltimore Ravens could be in trouble. Despite having one of the most talented teams in football this year, the group has disappointed early on. Many of these problems have been defensive miscues, but another area of concern is running back Derrick Henry.

Henry fumbled yet again on Monday against the Detroit Lions, and the Ravens failed to keep the run game moving over the course of the night. Outside of a 28-yard touchdown run from Henry, Baltimore had just 57 yards on the ground.

Head Coach John Harbaugh stated the obvious in his postgame press conference regarding Henry’s fumbling issue.

“We’ve got to get it fixed,” Harbaugh said. “We just want to protect the football. We got to do it, we got to be good at it.”

Henry has rarely fumbled the football throughout his career. In 139 games, he has only fumbled 23 times. Three of those have come in the first three weeks of his 2025 campaign, and two of those were back-breaking turnovers in the fourth quarter of close games.

As Harbaugh said, this has been far from the norm for Henry, but it is quickly becoming a glaring issue. Like in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore had the chance to go on a game-changing drive and put themselves in a strong position to come out with a win. However, again, Henry lost a fumble on a crucial drive deep in Baltimore’s own territory.

Henry is still an elite running back, and two lackluster games should not put his status in question. Still, the Ravens need to improve their running game as a whole. The gaps have not been created up front as consistently, and although Henry’s fumbling problem adds another layer to a disastrous rushing attack in the past two weeks, he remains one of the most difficult players to tackle.

Much of the difficulties up front could be due to the absence of All-Pro fullback Patrick Ricard, who is known for wrecking opposing defensive lines and creating lanes at the second level. Still, the offensive line must be better, and Henry must hold onto the football moving forward.
