Mike Green gave Ravens something to build on despite Week 2 loss

The product that the Baltimore Ravens’ defense put out there in their Week 2 loss was unacceptable. It wasn’t close to the standard Jesse Minter holds on defense. There was one silver lining, though, and his name is Mike Green.

When the Ravens drafted Green in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the excitement was through the roof. He didn’t live up to that hype in his rookie campaign, but against the New Orleans Saints, he had a career-best performance.

Green showcased his freak athleticism off the edge, fooling Saints right tackle Taliese Fuaga and beating him with an inside swim move to bring down Tyler Shough for his first sack of 2026.

And it wasn’t just one big play. He finished with a 25% pass rush win rate, per Pro Football Focus. That led the Ravens' defensive line.

As an edge rusher with sky-high potential, this could be Green’s first (very big) step.

Mike Green can be an electrifying pass rusher. At his best, his burst and quickness make the opposing offensive line’s life a nightmare; his bend defies the laws of physics; his motor is always attached to a portable charger—it’s undying.

Coming into the NFL, the question was his size and reach. At 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, he doesn’t have the build to set the edge and hold his ground against the most physical tackles. His 32-inch arms put him at a disadvantage, too.

However, in the right system, Green could truly take off. He was constantly mentioned as a breakout candidate this offseason, and that’s what appears to be happening under head coach Jesse Minter.

Green’s 2026 didn’t get off to the most fantastic start—he saw just 17 defensive snaps. Whatever he did in the next practice week, though, won the coaching staff over. His snap share ticked up to 32 in Week 2, and Green rewarded them with a standout performance.

The second-year pro finished with 2 tackles, 1 sack, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 QB hits. As a result, he earned an 80.1 PFF grade, which is the best single-game outing of his career.

He made some truly dazzling plays.

He was doing it all. Inside or outside, against the run or pass, Green took the New Orleans offensive line out to lunch. He made some impressive strides.

Most notably, his run defense is a welcome improvement. His PFF grade in that department was 47.1 in 2025, but two games into 2026, it’s sitting at a decent 64.5. For a player viewed as a designated pass rusher by some, this could be a sign he’s becoming a true three-down threat.

In Week 3, fans will be hoping Green can turn this into a 2026 breakout. While the defense looks talented, some adjustments must be made under the new coaching staff. Green continuing to turn up the volume would certainly help Baltimore bounce back.
