Myles Garrett gives $160 million worth of lies at press conference

He was so close to being believable...

Baltimore Ravens fans will roll their eyes out of their sockets when they hear the nonsense Myles Garrett just tried to get away with.

The Cleveland Browns haven’t been known to be competitive in… well, ever. So it’s very interesting to hear Garrett chose to rescind his trade request because of winning football. It surely had absolutely nothing to do with his historic four-year, $160 million contract extension he signed after Cleveland’s ultra-competitive 3-14 season. Winning was definitely the priority. Definitely not because of money… we can't stress it enough that it was not because of money. Sure.

Like, you really can’t make this up.

Myles Garrett lies through his teeth trying to convince people he re-signed for non-monetary reasons

Garrett sat in front of the media, straight-faced, and said it was “never about the money” and “always about winning.” Which is funny, considering he publicly requested a trade because Cleveland wasn’t remotely competitive. And just one month ago, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Garrett was willing to sit out games if his request wasn’t granted. But now? Now he’s a Brown for life and “always believed” in this team.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Courtesy of Mary Kay Cabot, Garrett told the Cleveland media he wants to finish his career with the Browns, throwing in the classic PR-friendly line about retiring in Cleveland—either an empty statement or a miraculous, full-speed reversal from his “Get me out of here” stance just weeks ago.

At some point, Garrett probably started believing his own words. But the timing of all of this makes it laughably clear what actually happened. Cleveland handed him a blank check, and suddenly, he’s the biggest Browns fan on Earth.

And look, no one is blaming him for taking the money. Secure the bag. That makes business sense. But don’t try to pass it off like the Browns’ winning culture (pause for laughter) is what suddenly changed your mind. The Browns have done nothing to improve since his request, so why the complete change of heart?

This whole saga highlights just how unserious Cleveland is as a franchise. They had an elite defense in 2023 and still got gobsmacked by the Houston Texans in the playoffs. Then, instead of improving, they imploded into a 3-14 disaster in 2024. So what did they do? Doubled down and gave Garrett a record-breaking deal with zero real plan for fixing their offense.

Meanwhile, Baltimore locked up Ronnie Stanley, brought in DeAndre Hopkins, and reshaped its defense under the sharp mind of defensive coordinator Zach Orr. The Ravens are making moves to compete. The Browns are Browning.

But hey, congrats to Garrett on his payday. But let's not act like this complete 180 is anything but monetarily related. If Garrett wanted to win, he'd ride his trade request out and make his way onto a team that actually contends.

This is one of those times where the $160 million said more than any of his actual words.
