The Baltimore Ravens are ready to pick up the pieces and reform their defense in 2026. This offseason, they made all the right moves, headed by the hiring of Jesse Minter.

There is simply no way that Minter’s defense will be anywhere close to as bad as Baltimore’s 2025 unit. In fact, it should be one of the best. He’s just way too good a playcaller not to put together a strong unit, and there's talent all over the place.

There is one spot on defense that could be in position to get a major boost, too: the defensive line. It’s not that the defensive line is lacking talent. They have enough with guys like Travis Jones, John Jenkins, and recent signee Calais Campbell. However, two-time Pro Bowler Nnamdi Madubuike is making progress to rejoin that group. Minter provided a positive update on him on Wednesday.

Baltimore Ravens’ could get game-wrecking force back soon

There's clearly still some uncertainty in Minter’s statement about Madubuike, but it’s hard not to get excited. There’s been growing optimism about his status all throughout this offseason, and now it sounds like he’s really getting back into the swing of things. If he comes back, things could look really dangerous in Charm City…in a good way.

We all know that Madubuike is one of the biggest threats on the interior in the NFL. He’s grown into a certified sack-getter over the past few seasons, and does a darn good job against the run. It’s truly impressive what he’s been able to do, especially when you factor in all the double teams he sees. Now, just imagine that game-wrecking ability next to an actually productive defensive front.

The Ravens’ defensive line looks amazing on paper this year. On the interior, there’s Jones, Jenkins, and Campbell, but on the edge is where the serious upgrades have been made. The team inked Trey Hendrickson to a blockbuster free agent deal and drafted Zion Young in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Add in second-year pass rusher Mike Green and a versatile threat in Tavius Robinson, and they finally have some real high-end talent and depth. Madubuike’s potential return would only amplify the production.

And in turn, the impending bounce-back from Baltimore’s defensive line will mean everything for their secondary. Just like most of the team, the cornerbacks were dreadful in 2025, but a lot of that had to do with the lack of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The Ravens tallied just 30 sacks last year. That was never going to cut it, and thankfully, things appear to be headed back in the right direction. If Madubuike puts his name back into the equation, well…then good luck to the opposing offenses.
