The Baltimore Ravens lost more than they gained in free agency, and although they improved in terms of talent, they certainly lost some valuable depth. That makes this year’s NFL Draft all the more important.
It’s even more crucial when you look at the type of offseason their most hated division rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are having. They may be the most improved team coming out of free agency. After coming painfully short of the AFC North crown last year, the Ravens can’t afford to let the Steelers out-draft them.
If Tommy Jaggi, the site expert for FanSided’s Pittsburgh Steelers’ site, Still Curtain, gets his way, then Baltimore could be in major trouble. On FanSided's big board, Jaggi has Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson as his No. 1 of the top-five guys who could be in play at No. 21. Jaggi wrote:
“The Pittsburgh Steelers need a go-to option at wide receiver, and Jordyn Tyson fits the bill of what Mike McCarthy looks for in a WR1…Tyson could be the No. 1 option in the passing game as early as his rookie season.”
Baltimore Ravens could face terrifying draft scenario with potential Pittsburgh Steelers’ pairing
Ironically, Tyson is also Ebony Bird’s No. 1 prospect at Baltimore’s draft slot. He’d create an exciting duo in the passing attack between himself and Zay Flowers, while also giving Lamar Jackson that boundary threat that he hasn’t consistently had in his NFL career. You don’t really need to sell Ravens fans on Tyson, and if he were snatched up by Pittsburgh following a draft slide, that would be a terrifying outcome to think about.
Sure, there are questions about the health of Tyson’s hamstring—that’s the whole reason he could even possibly be sitting there at 21st overall; however, he’s got top-10 talent. Shoot, he might even have top-five talent. He’s that good.
The Steelers already wreaked havoc on the Ravens’ secondary last year, and at that point, they really only had DK Metcalf. Now, they’ve added Michael Pittman Jr., and given Jaggi’s analysis, there’s even a possibility they could throw Tyson into the equation.
In that scenario, it’d be three above-average wide receivers residing in Pittsburgh. On the opposite side, Baltimore’s secondary remains somewhat lackluster. Nate Wiggins is a quality player with potential to blossom, but Chidobe Awuzie, while a nice re-signing, is 30 years old, and Marlon Humphrey just had an extremely bad down-year.
The coaching shift should be a complete game-changer in 2026, but talent questions may remain. Would they have enough there to combat a trio of Metcalf, Pittman, and Tyson? Most likely not.
A draft addition of Tyson’s caliber has a chance at backfiring with his lengthy injury history. But in the same breath, it’d also offer an opportunity at offensive dominance. Ravens fans are sure hoping that doesn’t occur with the Steelers.
