B/R's hot take on Ravens' Lamar Jackson contract is utter nonsense

The Baltimore Ravens may not have built the perfect roster over the last few years, but they can take solace in the fact they have nailed it at the most important position by signing MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson to a contract that makes him one of the highest-paid players in the game after a long negotiation.

Even as the Ravens subtract elsewhere on the roster, the presence of Jackson is so overbearing that Baltimore will always be considered a Super Bowl contender as long as No. 8 is ready to go. That security is worth the big five-year contract.

However, some believe that Jackson's contract can weigh on the team's balance sheet. Prompted by the Jacksonville Jaguars signing quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a huge contract, Bleacher Report started to wonder how most of an impediment this contract is.

B/R put Jackson's contract on a list of blockbuster contracts teams will eventually regret. Perhaps they need a reminder of what Jackson did last year, or the fact all but 2 GMs in the league would do unspeakable things just to have a quarterback as good as Jackson.

Nevermind that Jackson won the MVP for the second time in his career, falling short of becoming the first ever twice-unanimous MVP by one vote. Disregard the fact he won that award with one above-average wide receiver. He's still an elite quarterback with a deal that gets better every year.

With contracts like the ones recently handed out to Detroit's Jared Goff and Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence continuing to boost the quarterback market up a few notches, Jackson's average annual value will actually be fairly economical. By the time Miami's Tua Tagovailoa and Dallas' Dak Prescott get paid, Jackson's deal will likely be sixth or seventh in AAV per year.

As for calling Jackson a "fragile, often-exposed" quarterback, that statement is so hilariously off-base it makes one wonder of the writer came from another planet. Saying that an MVP who is on track to shatter the quarterback rushing yards record has been exposed due to his postseason numbers is the overstatement of the year.

Jackson is one of the best at what he does, and the Ravens are eternally grateful that he is wearing their iconic purple. Anyone who tries to describe this contract as an albatross is not arguing in good faith, as every metric shows this deal is a win for Baltimore.
