We are continuing to countdown the Baltimore Ravens roster as we get closer to the start of training camp. The list of our rankings is focusing on which players will have the biggest impact on wins and losses, and then who has the best chance of making the roster.

We are getting closer to the top 53 as we have Josh Johnson at number 57.

Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 57 Josh Johnson

Josh Johnson should be the definition of journeyman in the dictionary. He is going to be 37 years old this season, and he has made only nine starts in the NFL. Johnson has played for seven NFL teams, and he even missed two seasons because he started in the AAF and the XFL for a time in his career.

Josh Johnson was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009. He played for the Bucs, Browns, Bengals, Washington, Jets, Ravens, and 49ers. Now, he is back in Baltimore, where he started a game in 2021.

Josh Johnson has a clear purpose on the roster. The Ravens lost Lamar Jackson last year, and their season was sunk. The team turned to Tyler Huntley, but even he got hurt, leading to Anthony Brown getting his first looks in the NFL in moments that were too big for him.

The Baltimore Ravens extended Jackson, so they trust in his health, but they also realize that banking on it will leave them limping out of the playoffs again. They do not want to be in a spot where Anthony Brown is quarterbacking again, or at least not to the point where they fear the options they have.

So, the room is much deep. Josh Johnson is 57th, but he may end up sticking around in the top 53. The team can carry a third quarterback on gamedays now without it hurting the roster, and it appears Johnson was signed for that direct purpose.

The reason he is 57 comes down to the idea that the season is still in big trouble if it comes down to him. Also, while the Ravens fear that Brown is a downgrade, they would love to see Brown come into training camp and beat out Johnson. He is currently QB3, which means a track to the roster, but if he loses and is QB4, he will be on a new team in a month or so.
