Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 61 Dontay Demus
As we get closer to the Baltimore Ravens reporting to training camp, we are going through the 90-man roster to see who are the most valuable players. This list looks at who has the best chances to make the roster and who can impact games when it comes down to it.
We are moving right along, and have made it to number 61, Dontay Demus.
Baltimore Ravens 2023 roster ranking: No. 61 Dontay Demus
Dontay Demus is a rookie UDFA wide receiver from Maryland. To be this high as a UDFA, you have to have some talent. Dontay Demus was expected to be drafted, almost on his physical attributes alone.
Still, when Demus can get going, he has the goods. The issue is that he has not been able to stay healthy. He had 629 yards as a sophomore in 2019 and then failed to hit that mark again. He recorded 365 yards in 2020, 507 yards in 2021, and then had 233 yards in his final season.
The yardage drop coincided with a drop in snaps as well. He went from 647 snaps to 284, down to 251, and then 474 last year. Still, as you can see, last year he was clearly impacted by the injury.
So, the Ravens are betting on the upside and what he once was. If is healthy, he could be a lot better than his 2022 self. Still, when you look at the Ravens roster, the odds are that he will be on the practice squad.
He is not passing up Zay Flowers, Odell Beckham, Rashod Bateman, or Devin Duvernay. Nelson Agholor has much more experience, and then there are James Proche and Tylan Wallace. Between Wallace, Proche, and Demus, one of the three will probably make the roster.
Demus has a shot and is competing for WR6, which is what puts him closer to the 53-man roster than most of the UDFAs. However, the odds are still higher that he will end up on the practice squad as he enters training camp behind both Proche and Wallace and sees Laquon Treadwell lurking.
