Why Damarion 'Pepe' Williams returns to the Baltimore Ravens at the perfect time

The Baltimore Ravens activated slot cornerback Damarion ‘Pepe’ Williams off of the injured reserve this week. There is not only a good chance that he is active and playing on Sunday, but he has a good chance to start and play a significant role. His return could not come at a better time.

The Baltimore Ravens should start Pepe Williams in the slot week 15

The Baltimore Ravens may be without Kyle Hamilton for a week or two. It does not sound like Hamilton will miss any serious amounts of time, but the Ravens want to be safe, considering they have solid playoff standing. They would rather see him healthy for the important games.

With that in mind, the Ravens will be without their top defender in the slot. They have been using Arthur Maulet in specific packages as a slot, and when Kyle Hamilton has had to play strong safety, it has been Maulet in the slot. However, it is starting to look like the time for the Ravens to continue to trust Maulet is wearing out

He made some solid contributions early in the season, but right now, teams are targeting him. This would make it the perfect time to bring Pepe Williams back into the mix. He is not only healthy, but his legs will also be fresh during a season when many players are beaten down and worn out.

The Ravens could see a small tick-up in the man coverage ability in the slot over the next couple of weeks, which could help get Hamilton healthier and also give Maulet a breather.

Health has always been an issue for this Ravens team, but right now, they are trending in the right direction. Getting Williams back is a big return, especially if it means they can ensure Hamilton is healthy for the playoff run.
