The Baltimore Ravens need to make some splash moves this offseason. After a horrendous 2025 season that saw them finish 8-9 and miss the playoffs, they are looking for drastic improvements to the team in 2026.
They already made some of those improvements, as Baltimore enters a new era under head coach Jesse Minter. They also made a bold addition to the coaching staff, as Minter brought on 29-year-old Declan Doyle to call the plays on offense. Clearly, they are looking to make a statement in the upcoming season with a young, up-and-coming coaching staff.
Even though the coaching staff is turning the page, the roster needs a serious revamp. Stars like Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, and Kyle Hamilton are in place, but the Ravens need depth and starpower at some crucial positions.
General Manager Eric DeCosta has been known for building through the draft, but that philosophy needs a slight change this offseason. He needs to capitalize on the trade and free agent markets.
Thankfully, some star players may soon be on the trade block. On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings fired their General Manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. They replaced him with Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski.
Brzezinski’s time as general manager is expected to be temporary, though, and the eventual new regime could look to trade some of the pieces Adofo-Mensah brought to Minnesota. Among those players could be outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard. If he’s available, DeCosta needs to get on the phone as soon as possible.
Ravens must make an effort to trade for Jonathan Greenard
2025 was a bit of a struggle for Greenard. He tallied just three sacks in 12 games, which was the third-lowest output of his six-year career. The 28-year-old did post a 74.2 Pro Football Focus grade, though, good for 31st among 115 edge defenders. He also dealt with a shoulder injury in Week 10 that ultimately put him out for the rest of the season after re-aggravating it in Week 15.
When healthy, Greenard is a star. He is the exact player Baltimore needs opposite of rookie outside linebacker Mike Green. Before that downyear statistically, he totaled 12.5 sacks in 2023 and 12 in 2024.
Greenard does carry a somewhat hefty salary. He signed a four-year, $76 million contract with the Vikings in 2024. In 2026, he has a base salary of $18.39 million and a cap hit of $22.3 million. The Ravens will need to clear some cap space, but with a flurry of extensions, restructures, and cuts, a potential trade for Greenard could become extremely realistic.
Baltimore would need more help off the edge. However, Greenard gives them the Pro Bowl-caliber talent they need at that spot. After that kind of move, a couple of extra depth pieces would be all they need for their pass rush to take off next year.
