The Baltimore Ravens agreed to a deal with former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter on Thursday. He replaces the void left by recently fired head coach John Harbaugh, who spent 18 years in the position, and will become Baltimore’s fourth head coach in franchise history.
For an organization with a long run of consistent success, it takes a lot to impress the front office. Since their inception in 1996, the Ravens have made the playoffs 16 times and have won two Super Bowls. Minter has big shoes to fill, but after beating out 16 other candidates for the job, it’s clear Baltimore has a ton of faith in him. He is already earning the fanbase's respect, too.
Following the announcement of Minter’s hiring, owner Steve Bisciotti released a statement endorsing Minter and the front office’s work throughout this entire process. Evidently, he is more than convinced that Minter will get his team back to a championship level.

Steve Bisciotti offers high praise for Jesse Minter
The Ravens saw firsthand what Minter can bring to an organization. He was the team’s defensive assistant from 2017 to 2018, the assistant defensive backs coach in 2019, and the defensive backs coach in 2020.
He did outstanding things in Charm City during his tenure, and after a brief stint coaching in college, he returned to the NFL as one of the best defensive coordinators with the Chargers from 2024 to 2025. After two tremendous seasons that included two playoff appearances, Minter was one of the top names of this offseason’s hiring cycle. Baltimore knew they couldn’t strike out on him, signing him before competitors like the Cleveland Browns or Las Vegas Raiders could swoop in.
Minter’s bright defensive mind should instantly take effect in Baltimore. They have been horrendously inconsistent on that side of the ball over the past two years, which likely had an impact on who they decided to hire. Most of the foundation is already there for Minter, who’ll undoubtedly build them back into a formidable force.
It’ll be interesting to see how much staff and roster turnover there will be in the coming weeks. Obviously, Minter already has strong relationships with many coaches and players currently in the building. After a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw the Ravens miss the playoffs, there is clearly a ton of work to do, but where those potential changes will be made will be interesting to see.
