Baltimore Ravens fans haven’t seen Aeneas Peebles on the field in a while. Since Nnamdi Madubuike’s return, Peebles has been inactive on game days. Three weeks, three healthy scratches; that might be concerning…just a tad.
In his rookie season, Peebles played just 71 defensive snaps. That was with Madubuike missing for 15 games and a shallow defensive line room. Many believed he was in John Harbaugh’s doghouse, and that Jesse Minter’s arrival would let Peebles blossom.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem like the case.
Five weeks into 2026, Peebles has played just 18 defensive snaps. He was active in the first two weeks, but hasn’t suited up since. The 25-year-old could be sliding down a troubling road.
Baltimore Ravens’ Aeneas Peebles isn’t in Jesse Minter’s plans right now
It’s honestly shocking that Aeneas Peebles hasn’t been part of the plans whatsoever over the past three weeks. He’s turned in a decent 65.5 overall grade, per Pro Football Focus, and has registered 2 pressures in just 18 snaps. He was certainly flashing his ceiling as a pass rusher.
Unfortunately, Jesse Minter and Anthony Weaver are running out a defensive line without Peebles. Nnamdi Madubuike, Travis Jones, Calais Campbell, Broderick Washington Jr., and John Jenkins have been the ones active, and even undrafted rookie edge rusher Ethan Burke is a bit of a tweener.
With that rotation, Peebles hasn’t had any room to make a name for himself.
The man standing in his way? Probably Broderick Washington Jr.
While Jenkins has gotten the fewest snaps of that group, he’s Baltimore’s backup nose tackle — Peebles and his 6-foot, 300-pound frame won’t take that spot. Washington, on the other hand? That’s a role Peebles could slide into.
And Peebles really should jump Washington on the depth chart. Washington has played 108 snaps with just a 39.0 overall grade, per Pro Football Focus. He’s doing that in about 20 snaps every week, which looks like a waste of good opportunities.
This isn’t a slow start to the year, either. Washington’s played at a below-average level since inking an extension back in 2023. Maybe his salary is the reason he’s playing, but if you want your best guys on the field, Washington shouldn’t be one of them.
If Peebles can’t be active over a player performing at that level, that might be a sign of trouble. Obviously he’s not a good run defender; however, he added weight this past offseason to be more competitive in that area. More importantly, he could develop into a dangerous interior pass rusher; his quickness can wreak havoc.
Right now, though, things are looking rough. Peebles needs to escape this inactive trend as soon as possible.
