The Baltimore Ravens are barreling into training camp with perhaps the strongest roster in the league. There are countless playmakers on this year’s Ravens team, and the depth is lethal, as well. However, that does not mean they are without heated position battles heading into 2025.
When it comes to the most competitive areas up for grabs in Baltimore this year, two come to mind. One is their left guard spot, and the other is outside linebacker. The guard battle is the more concerning of the two, as the Ravens lack a proven player looking to start alongside right guard Daniel Faalele. As for the pass rush, there is a ton of talent, paving the way for an intense competition as they inch closer to preseason.
2 training camp position battles to watch
Left Guard
Two players are diving headfirst into the brawl for the starting left guard, but depending on how training camp progresses, more could join the fray. At face value, it sounds like Andrew Vorhees is a shoo-in for starts in 2025, but rookie third-round pick Emery Jones Jr. has starter qualities. Once he is healthy, the LSU product could give Vorhees a run for his money.
It is unlikely fellow offensive guards Ben Cleveland and Garrett Dellinger will force themselves into the competition. Although, since the job is wide open, a dominant showing from either could change that thought.
Cleveland has yet to showcase much with the Ravens, mainly contributing to the special teams unit. In Dellinger’s case, he is a seventh-round selection with a long road to earning a roster gig. Regardless, training camp is always full of surprises, and one of these guards could be the shock of camp.
Outside Linebacker
Baltimore’s two starters on the edge are locked in. Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh proved why they are the team’s go-to pass rushers, each registering double-digit sack seasons and career-highs. The battle for key reps is on, though.
Van Noy and Oweh will get theirs, but one of the questions is, how big of an impact will rookie Mike Green have? He was one of the most highly sought-after players at the position talent-wise in the 2025 NFL Draft. There are certainly off-the-field concerns, but if those resolve themselves like the Ravens think they will, he will demand reps.
The other battle could be between Adisa Isaac and David Ojabo. Sure, Baltimore could keep both, but going off 2024, they kept five outside linebackers. Between Van Noy, Oweh, Green, Tavius Robinson, Isaac, and Ojabo, they have six. The former day-two draft picks have struggled with injuries, but they should be a full go at training camp, looking to show coaches why they should hold a spot on the initial 53-man roster.
These critical position battles will take most of the spotlight during training camp. With an offense focused on pounding the rock and a defense looking to get home to the quarterback on every down, these two positions will define Ravens’ camp and their 2025 campaign.
