Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web.  Today we take a look at some projected Baltimore Ravens free agent contract offers, welcome the team’s newest quarterbacks coach, and discuss why new coordinator Marc Trestman isn’t going to change the offense.

Marty Mornhinweg Joins Ravens Coaching Staff

Mornhinweg is a west coast kind of guy, which only confirms that the Ravens are going to try and retain their system from last season.  Which makes absolute sense, seeing as how they had so much success with it.  Speaking of which…

Marc Trestman Isn’t Changing Offense

Trestman confirmed as much, telling the press that the Ravens would retain the blocking scheme and use language similar to what they used in 2014.

Baltimore Ravens Free Agent Contract Projections

As it stands right now, the Ravens are projected to have roughly $9 million in cap space going into free agency and the draft.  Obviously that will change as contracts are renegotiated and guys are released, but the team will most likely be operating with little wiggle room regardless.

Having said that, I think that the contract projections listed here are a little high.  Torrey Smith’s is, in my opinion, way too high at an average of just under $9 million per year.  I would peg his value a little closer to $7 million, an entirely reasonable number for a guy who has yet to show that he is more than a second tier wide receiver.

And $3.5 million a year for Owen Daniels?  Is that good value?
