Welcome to the Daily Caw, where we round up all the latest Ravens news and notes from around the web.  Today we dive into the post Super Bowl mock draft mania, C.J. Mosley is denied in his bid for rookie of the year, Elvis Dumervil is the best defender in the AFC North, and what is Lardarius Webb’s fate?

Ravens Mock Draft Mania

Now that the Super Bowl is over, we are entering full on mock draft mania for the next several weeks.  Thus far, most everyone is predicting that the Ravens will select a wide receiver or cornerback, though they tend to disagree on which one.  Regardless, we are tracking every player that the team has contact with over the next several weeks.

C.J. Mosley Finishes Second for Defensive Rookie of the Year

Mosley was a front runner all season for DROY, but in the end he was denied in favor of St. Louis Rams’ defensive end Aaron Donald.  While Ravens fans will undoubtedly cry foul over the vote, both had sensational rookie seasons and were both deserving of the award.

Elvis Dumervil: AFC North Defensive Player of the Year

J.J. Watt was the NFL’s best defender in 2014, but the Ravens’ own Elvis Dumervil took the honors for the AFC North division.  Dumervil finished 3rd in the NFL with 17 sacks and beat out the Browns’ Joe Haden, who finished second in the voting.

What is Lardarius Webb’s fate?

We’ve said all along that Webb is going to have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay in Baltimore, even with the dire cornerback situation facing the team.  It wouldn’t really benefit the Ravens to cut him, however, as they would only save $2 million in cap space and take on $10 million in dead money if they in fact cut him loose.  A compromise seems to be the best bet for both sides.
