You can’t really blame Lardarius Webb for feeling a little bit worried after franchise legend Haloti Ngata found himself being traded to the Detroit Lions.  After all, Webb, like Ngata, has a pretty hefty contract on the books.  And Webb was sweating a bit after Ngata’s deal, as he told the Baltimore Sun.

With Webb currently slated to count $12 million against the 2015 salary cap, Webb should be sweating. Only Joe Flacco occupies a bigger cap number for the Ravens, now that Ngata is gone.  The only thing working in his favor (and giving him leverage) is the fact that $8 million of that is guaranteed.  And the Ravens are a team that already has over $20 million in dead money on the books.

The other problem for the Ravens is that free agent cornerbacks are getting big money on the market this year.  With recent target Tramon Williams getting a ridiculous $7 million per year from the Browns and Perrish Cox getting $5 million per, it’s going to be hard for the Ravens to bring any decent competition on board at a reasonable price.

Hopefully Webb will be worried enough that he will be amenable to a restructure and lower his cap number for the good of the team.  Even with teams overpaying for corners in recent days, his play last season just doesn’t justify his salary.  But then again, these monster contracts only give him more leverage in negotiations.
