Smith was a 4-year starter at Fresno State and has shown excellent coverage skills both as a safety and in the slot. In his senior year, Smith only recorded 1 interception after claiming 13 of them in his sophomore and junior seasons. Smith still had 7 passes defensed and 87 tackles in a solid year.
Apart from his coverage skills, Smith also demonstrates above-average football intelligence and is more than willing to come down to the line of scrimmage and help out against the run. However, he is undersized and isn’t tall enough to cover tight ends. Smith has short arms and needs to rely on body positioning more often than not. I think he could be worth looking at in the second round and the Ravens would be lucky if he fell to the third.
