Backups: Asa Jackson, Rashaan Melvin, Anthony Levine, Tray Walker, Tramain Jacobs

Jackson was another injury casualty in 2014.  Prior to hitting I.R., his play left a lot to be desired after the Ravens hoped that he would seize the nickle corner position.  Finishing as the 99th corner in the NFL out of 108 qualifiers, Jackson gave up a 69.8% completion rate and 106.6 rating to opposing quarterbacks in 2014.

Melvin was signed off the Dolphin’s practice squad last season as injuries ravaged the Ravens’ secondary, and he went on to become a pleasant surprise as a starter, at least until the playoffs.  Melvin notched 13 tackles, one pass deflection, and a forced fumble in his first two games, but gave up 12 catches on 15 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns against the Patriots.

Levine, a converted safety, is said to be switching back once again to his natural position.  He held up well at corner in 2014 for the most part, recording 23 tackles and four passes defensed while starting three games.  With a little more depth to start the season and a need at safety as well, it makes sense for Levine to move back.

Walker, the Ravens’ fourth round draft selection, has the traits and size to be an effective press corner. But he’s also quite raw after playing for tiny Texas Southern and demonstrating limited technique in college.  Walker does have outstanding size, good ball skills, and good hands, however.

Jacobs is a holdover rookie free agent from last year who was initially cut and signed to the practice squad before appearing in his first game against the Titans following multiple injuries.  The Ravens love his upside, making Jacobs a guy to watch now that he has a full season under his belt.
