The Baltimore Ravens need to take a good long look at the possibility of bringing in Rueben Randle. Randle has shown flashes of brilliance with the New York Giants and a change of scenery may be what he needs to take the next step at the wide receiver position. Randle would be a perfect fit for the Ravens.

More from Ravens News

Randle is a speedy wide receiver who does his best work against man coverage. With good speed and incredible athletic ability, Randle can burn past the competition. When he turns the jets on it is hard for any defensive back to keep up with him. The Ravens need speed. Randle has speed. This seems like a pretty easy solution to the Ravens need for a weapon and Randle’s need for employment.

The caveat to all that makes Randle so appealing is his inconsistency. There are times when Randle can’t be stopped, like when he had 7 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown, against the Redskins. Then there are times when you stop and ask yourself where Randle went.

Randle had 57 receptions for 797 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Randle’s best statistical season was the 2014 campaign. He was asked to step up after Victor Cruz was lost for the season. Randle had 71 receptions for 938 yards and three touchdowns in that year.

The Giants had big expectations for Randle. It is possible that they were quick to be frustrated with him and they didn’t spend enough time coaching him up. With the guidance of Steve Smith Sr., Randle could elevate his game. Smith Sr. is not afraid to be a mentor. He is a leader who expects the best from the players around him, and he wouldn’t let Randle slide with his inconsistencies.

I think there is a huge upside to the move if the Ravens want to make it. Randle would be a great addition to the team. Imagine a two tight end offense with newly acquired, Benjamin Watson, Crockett Gillmore, Steve Smith Sr., Kamar Aiken and Rueben Randle. We may even get a Breshad Perriman sighting! The point is that the Ravens need speed. Randle needs a job. Let’s make this happen.
