It would have been all too easy for the Baltimore Ravens to skip the NFL Free Agency frenzy that is going on right now. It would have been easy for a team that rarely signs big names this time of year to keep that trend going. It would have been easy to think that 2015 was an injury plagued season that didn’t go our way. It would have been easy to cling to excuses. The fact that the Ravens are trying to improve their team so eagerly is exciting.

The Ravens aren’t content with going into the 2016 season without upgrading the roster first. The new NFL calendar has just begun and the Ravens are being aggressive in the new league year. Baltimore quickly swept Benjamin Watson off the free agent market. They have made a series of moves to free up cap space. The Ravens seem to be trying to accomplish something now.
It is exciting because it is surprising. Again the easiest thing for the Ravens to do was to wait patiently for the NFL Draft while the rest of the league was freaking out over free agency. The Ravens have several team needs that must be addressed before the season. 2015 was not just bad because of injuries. Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta understand that this is a team that needs talent upgrades at key positions.
We have to wait and see what the Ravens are going to do. What we can expect is that the Ravens are trying to make a move that will make them significantly better next season. It could be a wide receiver. The Ravens have been rumored to be interested in Mike Wallace. I personally have been clamoring for Rueben Randle to come to Baltimore.
Maybe it is a defensive back. Eric Weddle and Brent Grimes seem to be common sense options for a team that has struggled in the secondary for a few seasons. It is impossible to know what the Ravens are planning. All indications however, point to something that breaks against the Ravens prudent free agency reputation.
