Is Justin Forsett Going To Start For the Ravens Next Season?

The Baltimore Ravens have plenty of players to choose from in the backfield. Some of those choices look like they could threaten Justin Forsett’s role as the starter. This is an interesting thing to watch for once training camp begins.

There are two names that you need to keep tabs on. The first is Buck Allen. Allen’s stock rose last season when he stepped up after Forsett’s injury. The other player to keep an eye on is Kenneth Dixon.

Dixon’s skill set is very intriguing. He may come into his rookie season as the most talented back the Ravens have. Dixon, who ran a 4.58 second 40 yard dash at the NFL combine, was a star at Louisiana Tech. Down the road, Dixon may prove that the fourth round was way too late for him to go off the board.

Justin Forsett has accomplished more with the Ravens than anyone thought he would. Forsett had been with several teams but never had the shot to be “the guy.” He got the opportunity of his career in Baltimore and became a feel good story.

In 2014 he had 1,266 rushing yards and 44 receptions. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry. Before breaking his arm in the second half of the 2015 season, he was on pace for another good season. His averege was down to 4.2 yards per carry but that’s still a healthy statistic.

The question is not whether or not Forsett is capable of being the number one back. He clearly is. The question is whether or not the young talent at his position can give him a run for his money (yes the pun was intended).

The Ravens have always been a team that likes to go with the hot hand. If Allen or Dixon show that they can consistently outshine the competition, Forsett’s playing time can go down. Forsett’s roster spot is safe, but he has to keep earning that starting job. The Ravens have talent behind him.
