Breshad Perriman Could Be Terrell Owens Without The Drama

The Baltimore Ravens drafted Breshad Perriman despite concerns of his inability to stave off injuries. The Ravens took the chance on Perriman because they believed he could be their first elite game changer at the receiver position. The Ravens obviously saw Perriman as a once and a lifetime talent. I believe a healthy Perriman could become a Terrell Owens type player (without the drama).

Perriman has a similar build to that of the former 49ers headache. What separated Owens as an elite receiver was his ability to free himself from defenders with incredible athletic ability. Perriman has blazing speed. Perriman can go up and get the football. Perriman has next level talent. Talent that is freakishly reminiscent of Owens.

Perriman put up pretty incredible numbers at UCF. Because we haven’t seen him take the field as a Raven, its easy to forget that. But Perriman caught 50 passes in his junior year averaging just over 20 yards per reception. The big play capability of Perriman is unique. It is different.

Perriman has a tough road to NFL stardom. He has to recover from his second major injury just to get on the field. He has to avoid injury with a heightened susceptibility to getting hurt. In the short-term, Perriman has low expectations. In the long-term, Perriman has a chance to really shine.

What is exciting is that he has TO talent without TO drama. Perriman is not an egotistical showman. He is not all about himself. He is not a quarterback career killing personality. Perriman is a humble man who’s been through a lot. He has all the talent of Owens and none of the problems.
