There has been some first round buzz for Tim Williams, but he looks more like a day two prospect to me. The Ravens should be interested:

Tim Williams has a ton of upside. I have him ranked as the 48th best player on the Ebony Bird Big Board. The Ravens have the 47th pick in the second round. That’s where I think Williams is a perfect value pick in this NFL Draft class.

When you look at what Williams provides, it’s all about rushing the passer. He isn’t an over powering run defender. He is a lengthy and explosive pass rusher who makes things happen off the edge. If you’re looking for a more complete player, you’ll have to let him bulk up and grow on the job.

I have ten edge players ranked ahead of Williams. Taco Charlton is a freak of nature. Haason Reddick is the most complete prospect. Charles Harris is a really thick and tough pass rusher whose upside is insane. As you go down the board, there are players that are very comparable to Williams though. This draft class is pretty clumped, and it’s all about preference. I have Williams slotted as a middle of the second round prospect, others could justifiably see him as a day one stud.

More from Ebony Bird

Williams had 18.5 sacks in the past two seasons. He’s a pass rusher who could fill the Elvis Dumervil role. Remember, Dumervil was primarily a pass rusher. The Ravens had Courtney Upshaw for running downs and Dumervil for getting after the quarterback. A rotation of Matt Judon and Williams would work quite nicely.

Players like Terrell Suggs don’t come around all the time. The Ravens have to fill the wide receiver need in the first round. Williams would give the Ravens the pass rush help they need. Suggs, Judon and Williams could end up becoming a great pass rushing trio.

The Bottom Line:

Because he isn’t a finished product, Williams could fall into the second round. He would be a great value with the 47th pick of the draft. The Ravens don’t need him to be Terrell Suggs. They just need a little help getting Ben Roethlisberger and Andy Dalton on the ground.
