#1 – Players Ravens wanted got picked before #16

The 2017 draft was loaded with defensive talent, but seven of the first 10 players taken were on the offensive side of the ball. A lot of experts had the Ravens taking a receiver at number 16, because Baltimore is in need of a number one receiver. However, the top three receivers in the draft – Corey Davis (#5 by Titans), Mike Williams (#7 by Chargers), and John Ross (#9 by Bengals) were all taken by pick #10.

Pass rusher was arguably the next biggest need on the Ravens behind wide receiver, but Myles Garrett (#1 by Browns), Solomon Thomas (#3 by 49ers), and Derek Barnett (#14 by Eagles) were all gone by the time Baltimore got their turn.

The only cornerback taken before Humphrey was Marshon Lattimore at #11 by the Saints. Because cornerback is such a coveted position in today’s NFL, it should come to no surprise that Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome drafted one as early as he could.
