Baltimore Ravens lose 44-7 in London: 3 big things
2. The Game Plan Was Terrible:
The Ravens didn’t come into this game with a plan, or at least a good plan. This really makes me wonder if they spent some of their time this week prepping for the Steelers game. Harbaugh and company had no idea what to do with the Jaguars. Doug Marrone out coached Harbaugh and it was crystal clear. The Jaguars completely forced the issue on both sides of the ball. Not only did they steal momentum, but they attacked the Ravens just how they needed to. The fake punt by Jacksonville proves how prepared they were for this game.
It seemed like the purple and black did everything they could to help the Jaguars out schematically. All of the sudden, Dean Pees had a soft zone coverage scheme that even Blake Bortles could pick apart. Its not out of the question to think this game saved Bortles’ job as the Jaguars starting quarterback. By finding open receiver after open receiver, Bortles looked like Joe Montana out there. He went 20-31 passing and he scored four touchdowns. The Ravens didn’t account for the running back in the passing game. The Ravens allowed six easy receptions to the Jaguars backs with nobody even in the vicinity of the pass. That is unacceptable. There was no point where the Ravens defense adjusted. They either gave up or learned nothing throughout the game.
It’s not easy on the heart, but let’s dive into the offense:
It’s hard to even know what Marty Mornhinweg was planning to do with the offense. In the first half they had three and out after three and out, not to mention an interception. The offense never got rolling. Once the Ravens got to third down, they were almost automatically done. Mornhinweg’s failed to get creative. Other than a reverse to Mike Wallace on the first play, he had nothing up his sleeve. The Jaguars were all over every thing the Ravens were trying to do. Mornhinweg can only take so much blame. The offensive line was bad. Flacco was bad. The running backs were the best part of the offense and they weren’t overly impressive. The wide receivers made no impact in the game. Mornhinweg does share some accountability though, because the offense he called never took off in this game.
