1. Ravens tested well against Andrew Luck

Andrew Luck was a good test for the Ravens defense. Luck completed just six of his 13 passes. He had 50 yards and a pick; he also took more hits than the Colts want to see him take. The Ravens made Luck work, and the starting defense swarmed around on the football field. The Ravens defensive line was impressive. The linebackers were ferocious and the secondary was unforgiving of bad throws and very stingy.

The defense got their first real test on Monday night. The Rams played their backups against the starters. This was the first time the Ravens had a quality quarterback facing them in the preseason and they passed the test. The Ravens defense looks powerful, deep and fast.

Don Martindale dialed up some very nice blitzes against the Colts. His defense may have showed more pre-snap movement than we saw in the entire Dean Pees era. If this is Martindale’s preseason version of the defense, he is going to have a lot of fun in the regular season. Baltimore beat up the Colts offensive line and dominated at the line of scrimmage. That’s what you want to see from the starters, a strong performance.
