Golden Tate:

The Baltimore Ravens are always in need of wide receiver help, which is why I highlighted a couple solid options for them here. Of the three receivers I listed (John Brown, Jamison Crowder, Golden Tate), only one of them remains a free agent: Golden Tate. Honestly, he remains the best of the bunch, not even in the guys I mentioned. Headed into 2019 Free Agency, there was a legitimate argument to be made that Tate was the best among all the wide receivers.

Tate is now entering his 10th season in the league, after spending the majority of his career with the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. After winning a Super Bowl with Seattle, and being a staple on the team’s offense, Tate cashed out with Detroit. In his four-full seasons in Motor City, Tate never had less than 90 receptions. Even in 2018, which saw Tate play for both the Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles, Tate recorded 74 total receptions in 15 games.

It’s the reliability that Tate brings to the table that should entice Baltimore the most. The Ravens historically love receivers who can go across the middle and make the tough catches in traffic. Don’t let Tate’s 5’10” 197-lbs. frame fool you, Tate has a “my ball” mentality.

With Golden Tate being added to the Ravens receiving core, there is more comfort provided to Lamar Jackson. Right now, Jackson would enter the season throwing to unproven receivers like Jaleel Scott and Jordan Lasley. This is unacceptable for a quarterback who struggles with accuracy. Jackson needs a safety valve, and Tate can be that.

The 2019 NFL Draft has wide receivers that Baltimore should invest in, but signing Tate should be high on their list of free agents left to sign.
