According to reports, Tavon Young could miss the entire season with a neck injury. What does this mean for the Baltimore Ravens? We’re on it. Here are three big things to think about:

1. The Ravens have deep secondary but Tavon Young was an important part of the group:

The Baltimore Ravens have a very deep secondary, a fact that doesn’t change with the Tavon Young news. The Ravens have Marlon Humphrey, Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr, who are three starting caliber cornerbacks. The secondary was having this trio in combination with Young as the nickel cornerback would have made an almost unfair advantage for the purple and black.

The Ravens don’t really have a player quite like Young. Young had a chance to be one of the better nickel corners in the game. The Ravens aren’t just losing a role player here; they are losing a player who is essential. Young is a great cornerback over the slot with ball skills.

The Ravens are losing a play-maker. They can get an adequate performance from the next man up, but they are losing an x-factor here.,

The good news is the secondary isn’t crippled by the loss of Young. The Ravens still have an elite safety combination and cornerbacks on the outside who can shutdown even the best wide receivers in the game. In the tweet below, is a video of John Harbaugh explaining the injury situation.

The depth at safety should allow the Ravens sub packages to work and relieve the pressure on the next man up in the slot cornerback position, This was the one position group that could hold up after an injury like this.
