Preseason is quickly closing in, which means the regular season is just around the corner. For fringe roster players, there are only so many opportunities left for them to impress coaches and earn a spot on the team. The Baltimore Ravens have one of the deepest rosters in the league, making preseason the ultimate spotlight for those players.
Here are three players who could break out in Thursday’s preseason showdown with the Indianapolis Colts.
3 Ravens to watch for in showdown with Indianapolis Colts
David Ojabo
Is this the year for David Ojabo? It feels like Ravens fans have been asking that question ever since he recovered from the Achilles tear that he suffered at his pro day in 2022. This year might be his last chance to break out.
The former Michigan standout has been unproductive during his stint in Baltimore. Over three seasons, he has managed to suit up for just 18 games, tallying four sacks in those contests. If there is any chance for him to break out, though, it could be in the preseason. He should find some favorable matchups and turn in a strong game against Indianapolis.
Going into a contract year, he should be playing with a chip on his shoulder, too. However, if he does not show up in preseason, his time could end before the regular season even gets started.
LaJohntay Wester
Rookie wide receiver LaJohntay Wester is a certified playmaker. If he gets the ball in his hands, watch out. He possesses the ability to take the top off the defense and make splash plays wherever and whenever.
Preseason is the perfect place for a player like Wester to make a statement to the rest of the league. A 2025 sixth-round pick out of Colorado, the 23-year-old largely fell due to his size. At 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Wester is at a disadvantage against NFL corners, but he has already proven he can get it done at training camp.
As a late-round draft pick, Wester is also in a battle for a roster spot, but has stood out as a punt returner. That key role may pave the way to a 53-man roster spot following preseason, and he will get his shot at returning in Week 1 of preseason.
Reuben Lowery
The Ravens love an undrafted story. In 19 of the last 20 years, the team has kept an undrafted player on its 53-man roster to start the season. In 2025, cornerback Reuben Lowery could be that guy.
Lowery faces perhaps the toughest battle of anyone this preseason. He undoubtedly is flashing the talent to be on Baltimore’s roster come time for the regular season, but their cornerback room is one of the best in the league.
Many of Lowery’s competitors for the final few corner spots have been banged up, though. Rookies Bilhal Kone and Robert Longerbeam, and veteran Jalyn Armour-Davis have all dealt with injuries over the last couple of weeks. If Lowery can take advantage and put on a big showing against the Colts, then he could quickly rise in the depth chart.
