With the 27th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected Malaki Starks, a safety out of Georgia. Defensive back was undoubtedly one of the team’s biggest needs in the draft.
General manager Eric DeCosta mentioned in pre-draft press conferences that the Ravens would come out of the draft with a safety, and Starks was that guy. The draft isn’t over though, in fact, it’s just getting started. Rounds two and three are where the draft is won, so what are some positions that Baltimore could select on night two?
Three positions Ravens must target on Day 2
Edge
The need for pass rush now and in the future is becoming more urgent. One of the main reasons the Ravens were knocked out of the playoffs in January was the lack of pressure on Bills quarterback Josh Allen. While Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh are both uber-talented, their tenures in Baltimore could come to a close soon.
Pass rush is one of the deepest positions in the draft. Four prospects at the position, apart from do-it-all man Jalon Walker (Georgia), went in the first round, leaving plenty of talent on the Ravens in the second and third rounds. Notable names include Mike Green (Marshall), Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss), Donovan Ezeiruaku (Boston College), and many more.
While DeCosta seems dead set on staying put and not trading up, if one of those names, especially a guy like Green who had significant first-round hype, starts falling, the conversations in the war room about moving up could become serious.
Offensive Guard
Offensive guard wasn’t really in play in the first round. Aside from Tyler Booker (Alabama), interior offensive line prospects got no love. Booker was selected 12th overall by the Cowboys, so Baltimore had no shot at filling this need at 27th overall.
As we head into night two though, there are plenty of options for the Ravens to choose from. If they want to find a new offensive guard to take snaps alongside Daniel Faalele, it wouldn’t be a shock if the team uses one of their night two picks to fill the need. From pure offensive guards to offensive tackles projected to move inside at the NFL level, there’s talent all over the board.
Some of these potential future Ravens include Jonah Savaiinaea (Arizona), Wyatt Milum (West Virginia), Tate Ratledge (Georgia), and Marcus Mbow (Purdue). Whoever the selection is, the pathway to starting reps is there for Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry’s newest blocker.
Defensive Tackle
Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones make up the teeth of Baltimore’s defensive line. Combined, the duo offers endless pass rush and the ability to stop the run. The rotation could use some help though. Broderick Washington Jr. disappointed last season and Michael Pierce, one of Baltimore’s feared run stoppers, retired this past offseason.
Five talented defensive tackles went off the board in round one, but like pass rush, the talent is still there. Whether teams are searching for big-body linemen to eat up blocks or more athletic-oriented prospects to pressure the backfield, this draft has it all.
Shemar Turner (Texas A&M), T.J. Sanders (South Carolina), and Alfred Collins (Texas) could all be options for the Ravens by the time their next pick rolls around. We’ll have to sit back and wait and see.
