The Baltimore Ravens have had a very successful start to training camp. It’s great to see the players back in practice, and they’ve wasted no time impressing.
The offense got out to a hot start, and recently, the defense has locked in to put up performances you’d expect to see from Jesse Minter-coached defenses. It’s been a terrific showcase of iron sharpening iron, and things will only get better as the team continues to steamroll toward preseason action.
As we officially stand a week into Baltimore’s training camp, let’s look at four winners and two losers.
4 winners and 2 losers from first week of Baltimore Ravens training camp
Winner: Ja’Kobi Lane
After Tuesday’s practice, you could probably make the case that Ja’Kobi Lane is the biggest winner of training camp so far. The rookie third-round pick has made highlight play after highlight play. The showing that Lane has put up to this point has been simply incredible.
Given Lane’s situation, his camp showcase could help him make an immediate impact with the starting group. He’s among the players who needed this type of kickoff to camp the most. Starting reps at wide receiver are wide open, and Lane is looking to make those his as soon as possible.
Winner: Lamar Jackson
Lamar Jackson rocketed out to an insane start in training camp, going 10-for-13 on day one of camp. He really kept that rhythm going until the first day of pads, when the defense took over. Regardless, it’s clear that Jackson is getting comfortable in Declan Doyle’s new system…in fact, he’s thriving.
Then there’s the help surrounding Jackson. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman have done their job, Lane has broken out in a big way, and other rookie weapons are shining early on, as well. Of those other offensive rookies, Vega Ioane’s strong early impression could be the biggest factor that benefits Jackson in 2026.
Both Jackson and his supporting cast are holding up their end of the bargain right now.
Loser: Elijah Sarratt
As one rookie wide receiver in Lane wins in a big way, the other in Elijah Sarratt could be considered a loser. It’s not that Sarratt has been bad; he’s been on the field and learning the ropes of the NFL. However, he has generated very little buzz, while Lane has been hard to miss and is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
When you’re in the spot that Sarratt is in, too, a hot start is desperately needed. He already sat behind the trio of Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, and Devontez Walker, and now, it sure seems like Lane is securing a spot ahead of Sarratt on the depth chart.
If Sarratt can’t break onto the first team in camp, he could see a serious uphill climb in front of him during his rookie season.
Loser: Corey Bullock
Those fighting for the center job took a hit when the Ravens signed Ethan Pocic. Minter has said that it’s not a guarantee that he starts, and the main competitors to Pocic are Danny Pinter and Jovaughn Gwyn. Corey Bullock is the loser here.
Bullock made the team last year, but after signing a trio of centers in free agency, it became obvious he was on the outside looking in. Unfortunately, camp has done him no favors because he hasn’t been able to see the field.
Bullock is currently on the non-football illness list. We’ll have to wait and see if he can return and actually make a run for a roster spot.
Update: Bullock was removed from the NFI list and returned to practice on Wednesday.
Winner: Nate Wiggins
Nate Wiggins has been a standout on defense this summer. He was strong in the offseason program, and has continued that through the first week of training camp. The Ravens need him to develop into a certified CB1, and it appears that Wiggins is ready to make that jump.
Practice after practice, Wiggins is showcasing an innate ability to stay step for step with opposing wide receivers. He’s putting his ball skills on full display, competing at the catch with multiple pass breakups thus far, and on Tuesday, grabbing an interception. He looks the part.
Winner: Matt Hibner
Just as Lane has made a statement in the battle between rookie wide receivers, Matt Hibner might be outplaying Josh Cuevas in the rookie tight end race. He’s been a constant factor every day of camp.
According to Ryan Mink, Hibner has caught the most passes of any tight end in camp through the first week of action. An early breakout from the SMU product would be huge for the Ravens’ tight end room, as they lost two key producers between Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar in free agency. Hopefully he can keep it up once the actual games kick off.
