The Baltimore Ravens’ offense has caught fire to start training camp. The new-look group led by offensive coordinator Declan Doyle has looked very impressive, as Lamar Jackson has operated seamlessly out of the gates, and the wide receiver room is hitting a rhythm early on.
That receiver room is obviously being led by the team’s WR1, Zay Flowers. However, fans saw several other pass catchers stand out, too. That includes third-round rookie Ja’Kobi Lane.
Lane has quickly forced his way into a receiver battle that is wide open behind Flowers. His most intriguing trait is his ability to go above the rim and make contested catches. During Thursday’s practice, he showcased just that, making the biggest highlight of camp thus far.

Ja’Kobi Lane may already be emerging as the weapon the Baltimore Ravens need
The Ravens haven’t really had a consistent big-bodied target for Lamar Jackson to turn to across his career. Last year, the two-time MVP flashed a dangerous connection with DeAndre Hopkins out of the gates, but Hopkins really didn’t see much action following the first month. It really felt like it was a wasted opportunity.
Seeing that, though, probably played a role in Lane eventually being picked in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. He’s an acrobat at the catch point who is nearly impossible to guard. He can jump out of the building with an incredible catch radius, and when you combine that with a 6-foot-4 frame, he has immense potential.
Evidently, Jackson is starting to carve out a connection with Lane. The USC product must get acclimated to the NFL as soon as possible, and there’s no other way for him to do that than getting every target available to him this summer. Jackson is doing his part by testing him, and so far, Lane has been up for the challenge.
If Lane can hold onto the momentum from this hot start, he could quickly find himself in a starting role in his rookie campaign. Head coach Jesse Minter has said he expects at least one of the rookies to see major opportunities in their first season, and between Lane and the fourth-rounder Elijah Sarratt, Lane looks to have taken the lead in training camp.
Maybe this is just a flash in the pan for Lane—many are concerned about whether his route running can hold up in the NFL. Or, maybe it’s just the start. With his ability to pluck the ball out of the air with ease, he could bring the exact dimension that Baltimore’s offense has been missing: physicality and height at wide receiver.
