Ravens' biggest 2026 addition could be a healthy return of a top-100 force

Ravens fans can't lose sight of what Nnamdi Madubuike's return could mean for this team.

Just about everything went wrong for the Baltimore Ravens last season, especially on defense. Without a doubt, though, the loss of Nnamdi Madubuike, who suffered a season-ending neck injury after two weeks of play, was glaring.

His combination of run-stopping and pass rushing makes him a truly elite defensive lineman, and these skills were sorely missed last season.
A recent list of the league's top 100 players from CBS Sports ranked Madubuike 98th -- pretty good considering he barely played.

Thankfully, there seems to be real optimism that Madubuike will be back for the 2026 campaign. Reports in April indicated that he would be able to play despite this scary neck injury, and head coach Jesse Minter has noted that Madubuike is trending in the right direction.

Amid all the understandable excitement about other roster additions, most notably, Trey Hendrickson, a healthy Madubuike could be the most impactful.

A healthy Nnamdi Madubuike can provide a major boost to the Baltimore Ravens' defense

In Madubuike's last two healthy seasons, he's recorded 19.5 sacks, 54 pressures, and 99 combined tackles. Furthermore, he earned Pro Bowl honors in both seasons and All-Pro second-team honors in 2023. During that 2023 season, the Ravens were the best defense in the league, and Madubuike was one of the key drivers of their success.

A lot went wrong with the Ravens' defense last season from both a process and results standpoint. However, many of the Ravens' issues can be traced back to a lack of pressure. Zach Orr's schemes hurt in this department, but the root cause of these issues is the absence of Madubuike.

With Madubuike back in the mix, an upgraded system under Jesse Minter and Anthony Weaver, and the addition of Hendrickson, things will look vastly different. Madubuike might not be the shiny new toy, but his return is undoubtedly a massive piece of the puzzle.

It's worth wondering if Madubuike can return to full health after such a serious injury. Regardless, if he does, the Ravens' front-seven could transform from a struggling unit to an elite unit.

Madubuike can fill in so many gaps for this team, both in terms of pass-rushing and run-stopping. He and Hendrickson should make for a dynamic duo. Plus, with young talent including Zion Young and Mike Green, the Ravens' front-seven is pretty loaded. Even if Madubuike (understandably) isn't 100 percent himself, he could be a crucial part of Baltimore's success.

Ultimately, Madubuike's return can't be forgotten about -- he's a top 100 player in the league (bare minimum), and if all things go right, he can help transform the Ravens' defense.
