The Baltimore Ravens are ready to wage war in the trenches this season. After realizing how bad they were in that area in 2026, the organization made notable upgrades that could prove to be game-changers.
Along the defensive line, the Ravens could have one of the better units in football. They just need to get healthy. Thankfully, it sounds like they’re nearing full strength at training camp.
Nnamdi Madubuike returned from the PUP list, and Calais Campbell and John Jenkins are back, too. As we inch closer to the preseason opener, Travis Jones may be coming right behind them. On Sunday, Jesse Minter offered a very encouraging update on Jones’ status as he recovers from a pectoral injury.
“I think Travis will [return] real, real soon,” Minter said. “Expect that [defensive line] room over the next week to two weeks to take shape for us.”

Last year, pretty much every aspect of the defense sucked. Excluding the obvious generational talent that is Kyle Hamilton, the only consistent serviceable performances really came from Travis Jones and John Jenkins. That duo helped put the team in the top-10 in run defense in 2025.
Now, they’re set to become way better. They went all but two games last year without Nnamdi Madubuike, and along with him returning, the Ravens added Calais Campbell to the defensive line in free agency. That’s an influx of talent.
Of course, those additions should not only boost the run defense, but the extremely lackluster pass rush, as well. In fact, in all likelihood, Madubuike and Campbell will make a bigger impact in that area than the run defense.
The team totaled 30 sacks last season—that can’t happen again. However, with Madubuike and Campbell returning, 147 career sacks are coming into the fold between the two. Madubuike is a game-wrecker for opposing passing offenses, and Campbell has been aging like fine wine, tallying at least five sacks in each of the last four seasons.
All of that doesn’t even include a revamped edge rushing group. Mike Green and Tavius Robinson return, while Eric DeCosta found some extraordinary help in the offseason. Trey Hendrickson is among the league’s most feared pass rushers, and Zion Young brings the type of energy that everyone else will feast off of.
And when you pair all of that with the coaching arrivals of Jesse Minter and Anthony Weaver, the Ravens are bound to have one of the best defensive lines in the league. The Los Angeles Chargers defenses were top-10 in sacks in both seasons under Minter, and Weaver has had he’ll have his guys ready to hunt like a pack of wolves. That’s a match made in heaven.
All in all, there shouldn’t be a single possibility that the Ravens’ defensive line isn’t performing at a high level this year. The talent and coaching are both there, and now it appears the health will be there, too.
