The Baltimore Ravens got themselves a legitimate big-bodied target at wide receiver now. With their third-round pick, they drafted Ja’Kobi Lane out of USC.
After drafting Vega Ioane in the first round and following that up by adding Zion Young at No. 45, wideout was among the top two needs. They got themselves one with plenty of size in Lane, who stands at 6-foot-4.
Size and physicality are something that Baltimore lacked last year, especially when it came to their wide receiver room. Truly, they haven’t had a starting wide receiver who can threaten opposing defensive backs with overwhelming height in quite a while. Lane could be the difference maker they lacked there.
Baltimore Ravens select Ja’Kobi Lane at No. 80
It remains to be seen if Lane starts in his rookie year. Obviously, Zay Flowers takes one spot, Rashod Bateman is set to remain one of the starters on the outside after an eventful offseason, and the third receiver spot is up in the air. It could very well be Lane’s to take.
Lane’s stat lines with the USC Trojans were relatively underwhelming. In three years, he never broke 49 receptions or 745 yards across a campaign. However, he has the potential to do a ton of damage as a touchdown maker.
In his sophomore season, Lane hauled in 12 touchdowns. That mark dropped to just four in 2025, but he showed that he could be a lethal red zone target with his massive frame. That type of red zone target is just what this team needed, especially after watching Isaiah Likely depart in free agency, and DeAndre Hopkins also being expected to head out the door.
Lane can be trusted to go get the football whenever it’s in the air. It’ll be a favorable weapon for Lamar Jackson to throw to, as he has incredible focus matched with an above-average ability to adjust to throws at the catch point. With Jackson developing into a top-of-the-line passer over the past few years, this could be a match made in heaven.
That selection looks to be the Ravens’ last pick of Day 2, barring a late trade-up. It’s been a strong start, and they’ve clearly emphasized size and alpha dog mentality. Ioane and Young have that exact energy, and Lane is the latest to join the group.
