The Baltimore Ravens’ offense is going to look just a little bit different in 2026. Sure, their MO will remain the same under Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. It’s hard to ignore those two and change much in that regard. However, they have a new man calling the plays now.

It’s Declan Doyle time in Charm City. The 30-year-old offensive coordinator gets his first shot at being a lead play caller in the NFL, and is there a cooler place to get that chance than the Ravens? I mean, he gets to work with Jackson, Henry, and Zay Flowers. He’s loaded with star power.

Still, Doyle remains a bit of a mystery. He’s never handled these duties before. However, recently signed tight end Durham Smythe has fans covered. He dropped the inside scoop on Doyle on an episode of The Lounge Podcast with Garrett Downing and Ryan Mink.

“[Doyle’s] on top of all those details, the scheme is great. He’s worked with quarterbacks and tight ends, so he understands the entire offense,” Smythe said. “He’s young, the energy’s always high…He’s been around really good coaches from a very young age, so he understands the ways to get stuff done the right way.”

Baltimore Ravens fans get a peek into Declan Doyle’s vision thanks to offseason addition

Of course, the players and coaches are entirely familiar with what Declan Doyle is bringing to the table at this point. We’re two weeks through OTAs, and guys are starting to get acclimated to the new era. However, Durham Smythe not only brings strong play as a blocker and veteran leadership to the locker room. He also brings familiarity with Doyle’s scheme.

Smythe played under Doyle with the Chicago Bears in 2025. Although Doyle wasn’t the lead playcaller, as those duties fell on head coach Ben Johnson, he obviously played a huge role in gameplanning and leading the offense. Smythe is very familiar with that offense, playing a pivotal role as a blocking tight end for a team that rushed for the third-most yards in the NFL last year.

We should expect Doyle's mad rushing attack to continue with Derrick Henry, and it’ll likely get even angrier. Just think about what Baltimore’s second-place running game can do with Doyle now in the building. It’s bound to get dangerous.

In addition to the run game remaining an insane threat, Doyle is bringing a new and much better mentality to Baltimore. It sounds like there’s going to be relentless energy. It felt like that was missing last year, and switching from a 60-year-old Todd Monken to a 30-year-old Doyle will certainly bring a tone shift that was drastically needed.

Overall, hearing a player with eight years of experience like Doyle sign off on an extremely young coordinator’s scheme is a very good sign. Obviously, Smythe wouldn’t bash his OC, but he really sounds bought into Doyle’s future. When you have learned from Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, and sprinkle in your new-school mindset, you have a recipe for big-time success. Hopefully, it shows up early in Baltimore.
