The Baltimore Ravens’ first-round selection of Vega Ioane has the makings of a big-time hit. With how the board fell, guard was clearly the top need to address, and they addressed it in a 320-pound way by drafting Ioane. It was pretty much every fan’s dream outcome of Day 1.
While there’s a ton of hype surrounding Ioane, and understandably so, there’s still a ton of work to do. Day 2 is as crucial as ever. Looking at their needs, Baltimore can’t afford to swing and miss in the second and third rounds.
If the Ravens opt to sit and pick with their second-round selection at No. 45, it should be rather simple. If he makes it to them, Baltimore should look to draft Germie Bernard (Alabama). Wide receiver is undoubtedly their new biggest need, and Bernard would have a high chance to fill that need.
Baltimore Ravens have clear prospect to target now after drafting Vega Ioane
In 2025, Zay Flowers was pretty much the only factor in the passing game. Tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely fell short of expectations; Rashod Bateman came off an offseason in which he signed a fresh contract extension by posting a complete dud; and no one else really emerged.
Flowers was the only player to tally over 422 receiving yards last season, and his production was off the charts. He tallied 86 receptions and 1,211 yards. He was truly carrying the receiving room on his back, and in the second round, it should be time to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Selecting Bernard would take plenty of pressure off Flowers’ shoulders, while simultaneously giving Lamar Jackson another target to trust through the air.
Bernard is as trustworthy as it gets. He’s one of those prospects that you watch, and you just have a feeling that he’s going to be a good pro. He may not have the highest ceiling, but he seems to have a sturdy floor. He has the opportunity to be an immediate and steady producer in his rookie year.
The Alabama product may not have the size that fans want from their team’s next wide receiver. It’s obvious there’s more of a need for a big-bodied X target, but Bernard is tall enough at 6-foot-1, and what he showcases on tape makes him an even more desirable draft target.
Bernard knows how to get open. He showcases smooth footwork and gets in and out of breaks at a good pace. The 22-year-old also has incredible vision after the catch that makes him a threat anytime the ball is in his hands.
Overall, Bernard may not overwhelm opponents, but he’s got good traits that project him as a solid secondary option through the air. That’s exactly what the Ravens need.
